| Lets take a look at the File menu
of FrontPage 2000 as this is where you will start each session
working with your Web site. |
|
 |
To access your site you need to know:
[1] location, address, of
your Web site which is either your domain name (http://www.yourdomainname.com),
or (in some cases) an IP address.
Always starts with "http://"!
[2] your user name that
comes with your account (may be a word, a number or a combination of
both);
[3] password to access
your FrontPage account.
In order to open your web site for the
first time pick "Open Web..." from the File
menu. You will be presented with the Open Web window

In the "Site name"
field, enter the location of your Web site, starting with
"http://" (http://www.yourdomainname.com).

After entering location in the
"Folder name" field, click on the "Open"
button to open the location.
Another way to open your site, if you
have opened it before, is to go to the File menu, move mouse pointer
to the "Recent Files >" and pick your site
from the list that will show next to this option. You can also
select a shortcut to your site from the Open Web window and
click the "Open" button.
At this point you will be presented
with the authorization box that will prompt you for your user name
and password.
Note: Your FrontPage account settings is different from
your e-mail account settings.
Editing
and saving your pages.
Once your Web site is
opened, you should see on your screen panel called "Folder List" and the main panel
displaying contents of the pages you are working with. If you don't
see the "Folder List" panel, you can always bring it up by clicking
on the "Toggle Pane" icon...

Now you can work with
your pages. Once you have edited and updated their contents you save
them by clicking on the "Save" icon on the toolbar, select
"Save" from the File menu, or use a keyboard shortcut
"Ctrl-S".
If you want to save an existing page with a different file name on the
server, use the "Save As..." option in the File menu.
If you expect to have many pages and
other files (graphics, photos, audio, etc.) on your Web site, you may
want to organize them by creating different folders and placing the
files there by type of the content.
How
to navigate your site and manage your files and folders.
You can switch between different modes
of viewing your files and folders. In the "Views"
panel you can click on the "Folders" icon. The folder
list will take over the main area of the program window and you will
be able to navigate the contents just like you would with the Windows Explorer. You can create new
folders, rename, delete and move files between folders. Most
functions are available in this view by right-clicking a file or
folder and picking appropriate option from the list. Most of
these functions are also available in the normal "Folder
List" view.
Different options available in the
"Folder List" panel and in the "Folders" view if
selected, when right-clicking a) folder, and b) file:
| Right-click a file... |
|
Right-click a folder... |
 |
|
 |
You can drag-and-drop
files and folders if you want to organize them. It is best to
close all pages before performing file and folder renaming and
drag-and-drop operations as FrontPage will attempt to adjust any
existing links in your pages to match the new location of your files
and folders.
